I wanted to build a cherry wood dining room set that was both simple and elegant. The French country style accomodates that ideal. The dining room cherry table pictured is simply stunning to the eye as well as the touch.
The table is designed as a floating top table. There is no easily visible support for the top as it sits 5/8 inch above the table aprons and legs.
I have received many good comments on the shapely style of the legs. I do not form them with perfect precision with a router jig. Instead I cut them with a band saw and sand them. If you look closely in the glinting light you will perhaps notice the tiny indications that this piece is handmade.
While the style is called French Country, it really is a high style table and set. Each top is hand crafted and displays my most refined over-graining. The dining room cherry wood tops are filled with soft color from almost invisible pale oranges to lovely olives and deep reeds, to bold black highlights. The oak tops have stronger color lines that work well with the natural graininess of the contrasting tones found in oak.
The dining table black lacquer base has a light spatter finish. The maple base is ebonized and then finished with five coats of black lacquer.
The table seats six people comfortably. With the Mineral Wood™ top being 42" x 80" and approximately 1" thick, this is a stunning piece—with the matching chairs—doubly so.

Clinch Mountain Sofa Table

This sofa table is designed as a companion piece for the Clinch Mountain Country Table. Sized at 17” wide x 48” long x 32 ½” high it will work well as a sofa or hall table, or to accompany the dining room cherry set.
This little gem is a conversation piece every time. I had a gentleman in my shop recently who walked slowly around this table looking at every detail. Then he circled it again and finally a third time. He explained his behavior by saying “I am sorry but I just have to keep looking at it because it is so beautiful.”
I believe you will enjoy seeing this table as much as he did.
The design, construction, and finish details are the same as the matching dining room cherry table including the Mineral Wood™ top, matching under-trims, and black lacquered base. The overgraining varies following the natural grain of the wood. The black lacquer base has a light spatter finish.

I measured dimensions on all sorts of wood chairs—angles, heights—everything—and figured out that one reason that most wood arm chairs are deplorably uncomfortable is that most wood arm chairs are deplorably uncomfortable is that the arms are too low. I believe the manufacturers are determined to have them slip in under the table aprons.
I shaped and raised mine with comfort in mind. I also shaped the back stiles with a slow curve that will make you want to sit all evening.
The seats match the under trims and the tops on the Clinch Mountain Country tables. It comes with a light spatter finish black lacquered maple frame with Mineral Wood™ seat (19 ½” x 19 ½”). The frame is 44” high.
