I recently moved to Tennessee and in the process of moving, somehow one of the legs on my buffet broke right off! I was heartbroken to think it was destroyed and unusable. Found Don online and was quickly gotten in and repaired like new! Just a few days and he was done, even though I know he had other projects he was working on. I'm very happy to have been able to put it to use again! Great work and very pleasant to deal with!

We wanted a specially designed hutch for our computer, printer, and files. We had searched numerous sites online to try and buy one without success. We took a design to Don and he helped us tweak it and then constructed it for us. We were very pleased with his skill and the finished product. Thanks!

I took a family piece to him. My buffet turned out beautifully. He is a really nice person. If you have a piece of furniture that needs repair, I highly recommended him. He even gave me direction on how to make a China cabinet that my father made to go with the buffet match in color. I am extremely happy I found this business.

Earlier in our marriage, my wife and I purchased a unique pie safe in good condition.its our favorite piece of furniture in the house. After graduation we decided to have it restored. This was not a piece I wanted just any furnishing shop to redo or work on. I found Don on Facebook and brought it to him. Don immediately was able to give me a lot of information about our pie safe (techniques, material, design philosophy) that isn’t information you can easily find on google. Not gonna lie the price did catch me off guard a little, but I 100% would have paid it x2 after seeing the finished product. Don and his years of experience shine through our piece and look forward to handing it down to our kids and hopefully their kids.

I can't recommend Old Virginia Woodworking enough! Quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and excellent customer service! I am renovating an old 1904 schoolhouse, and wanted a telephone niche made, like the old Sears Roebuck houses had. The craft of furniture refinishing is highly susceptible to problems related to environment: heat, humidity, dust. When you bring your furniture to Old Virginia Woodworking it will be finished in a carefully controlled environment. The finish room here is controlled for heating, cooling, humidity reduction, and filtered-air dust control to assure excellent finish quality every time. We are not just some guys slapping finishes on in the garage. Our clients often bring us pieces that are meaningful to them, and we treat them with the care they deserve.

The human eye can detect at least eighty levels of sheen (how shiny or how dull a finish appears). Every furniture piece arrives with a different level of sheen on the surface. We have, in stock, specialty spray finishes that make it easier to match original sheen. After applying the closest match available the finish is hand-rubbed to either raise or lower the sheen to perfectly match the original finish. Even the high gloss on an expensive piano can be repaired and matched to your satisfaction.

I have reworked many pieces over the years including dressers, tables, fireplace surrounds, and almost any type of piece you are likely to bring in. I can perform woodworking repairs and then repair finishes as needed to make the repair "disappear." Recently I repaired the face of a cherry bookcase that had been shattered and re-glued previously by someone else—unfortunately the original repair had not been properly done. On that piece I sanded down the faulty repair on the face of the unit, stained the raw wood with dry powder dyes to match the original surrounding color, and varnished the repair. Voila, the fresh repair became nearly impossible to discover even if you knew it was there!—Don Schanzenbach
