I took a family piece to him. My buffet turned out beautifully. He is a really nice person. If you have a piece of furniture that needs repair, I highly recommended him. He even gave me direction on how to make a China cabinet that my father made to go with the buffet match in color. I am extremely happy I found this business.

Don at Old Virginia Woodworking did an EXCELLENT job stripping layers of paint from our 100+year old doors and refinishing them back into their natural, orignial look. He was extremely professional and communicative throughout the process and I cannot recommend him high enough. He is a true craftsman of the woodworking trade and I assure you after visiting his shop, he can undertake any woordworking job one might have!! I trusted Don with two very special items in my household. The first being a walnut desk that my dad made in his high school shop class (1970) that had been totally wrecked in a recent move. The movers somehow put about 10 screw holes into the top of the desk, scraping it terribly and losing some piece that allows the drawers to be affixed to the top. Don made it so that you cant even tell there were bug ragged screw holes in top and i think the desk is even more structurally sound than ever! The finish is buttery smooth but Don was sure to leave the markings on the bottom that my dad made while building this piece 50 years ago. The second item was an antique wall clock (c. 1890s) that has been in the family for atleast 3 generations. The clock lived in attics and closets and storage for the last 30 years and was in rough shape. Don made it look period-authentic and fresh, fixing the face and resetting it, hydrating and refinishing the cabinet, cleaning the face and repainting the hands and even ordering and installing a new glass for the face. My dad was incredibly touched to see both pieces and was incredibly impressed with the work. Don is a master at his craft and I will definitely be using his services again!

Excellent work delivered on time and exactly as requested. We have had Don refinish three pieces for us and each one was perfect, looking just like when they were new. Can highly recommend.

Don did a wonderful job on the two pieces brought to him. The pie safe (pictured) needed some major TLC and Don came through with flying colors. It looks great for a piece from 1720!

I can't recommend Old Virginia Woodworking enough! Quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and excellent customer service! I am renovating an old 1904 schoolhouse, and wanted a telephone niche made, like the old Sears Roebuck houses had. I talked with Don, sent some pictures of what I was looking for, he came up with the design, and the finished product is gorgeous! Just what I was looking for! I am thrilled with the finished niche! Don takes the art of woodworking very seriously, and his work is flawless! Highly recommend!

It’s a hike to get to Don’s shop, but the work he does is worth the effort. We had a bedside cabinet that I had ruined with a leaky CPAP machine and a gate leg table that lost a gate. Don and his apprentices repaired both to better than new condition. If you have fine, real wood furniture, Don is your man. The pricing seems a bit high…until you see the results. Then you realize the cost is almost a bargain!
